Alleviating the fear of mathematics
                  There is no problem on earth without a solution and all fears can be overcome. In the same vein, alleviation of matho-phobia can be achieved through roles which are to be played by the students, teachers, parents and even the society at large. These roles which should be played by the categories of people listed above are also the solutions to matho-phobia and they include;

1.Overcoming the matho-phobic mindset:This is mainly fof students. You can never defeat  a giant you are afraid of. So if maths becomes Goliath, then become David and defeat it. Someone once said that "Victory and defeat all come from the state of your mind". If you see maths as a subject that will knock you off balance, then it will surely defeat you but if you see it as all other subjects which you can overcome then, you can overcome it. So why not get up today and tell yourself," If Pythagoras could do it,I can do it."

2. Developing a likeness for the subject and the subject teacher: A student shold develop a likeness for the subject mathematics and even for tge teacher of the subject. Researches have revealed that having a special liking to something gets the brain deeply involved in doing that thing regularly. Likewise when you begin to like maths,you overcome the fear you have for it and almost immediately, you bdgin to enjoy doing sums and solving problems.

3. Regular solving of mathematics problems: Mathematics is not just a subject to be read alone but requires constant application of what has been learnt. Students should develop the habit of constantly solving maths problems and revising what has been learnt in class. By regular revision of what has been learnt in class, a student is able to overcome his/her fear for mathematics.

4. Right approach to teaching the subject: Right approach to teaching mathematics should be adopted by the teachers in other to give the students a good view of the subject. One may ask "What is this right approach?". Teachers should employ new and interactive methods while teaching mathematics and I will also offer a few suggestions. They could employ methods such as;
a. Asking some mental maths/simple brain work arithmetic as they enter the class.
b. Engaging them in regular maths test.
c. Use of mnemonic devices or coded methods of learning as "SOHCAHTOA"," FAR FAR NEAR NEAR".
d. Use of visible tools/practicals e.g. solid shapes like circles,squares, triangles etc.
e. Understanding the students and their various paces of learning and ways of getting across to them.

5. Employment of skilled teachers: It is said that " a blind man cannot lead a fellow blind man." If an unskilled teacher teaches a child, the child will surely end up being worse than him. The society and schools should endeavor to employ only professionals when it comes to the handling of delicate subjects like maths so as to ensure that the students are not misled.

6. Right attitude of parents: The role of parents in the alleviation of matho-phobia can never be overemphasized in the alleviation of matho-phobia. They can do the following in order to help their children overcome matho-phobia;
a. Checking their children's performance in maths tests,projects,assignments and exams.
b. Buying their children the required maths textbooks.
c. Encouraging their children to brace up and overcome the fear of maths.
